Potamonautes orbitospinus "Malawi Blue Crab"
Size: Specimens we have received range in size from about 2.5-4 inches in diameter across the shell. Sex differences: Both sexes have indentical coloration. Aquarium behavior: Potamonautes orbitospinus have proven to be extremely interesting in the aquarium. We have kept multiple specimens in the same tanks (ranging from 30 to 70 gallons), along with groups of various African cichlids, without any problems. The smallest fish we kept with the crabs have been about 2 inches in length. Even so, we claim no responsibility for "accidents". Aquarium diet: Potamonautes loves handouts of small pieces of raw shrimp or fish. Frozen foods are also accepted. It should be fed foods that it can "grasp". Observed spawning habits: Unobserved. Other information: Other than a few offerings of our own, we have never seen the "Malawi Blue Crab" offered in the United States. The species is indeed a rarity in the hobby and are given a special status when we can obtain them as part of an import shipment. BACK TO ARMKE'S RARE AQUARIUM FISH
